To be honest, I would consider this trip as one of the worst I've ever been to. Some of the talks were too long, there was no WiFi running, the people should have made the audience get up and do something fun instead of sitting for over an hour. I tried really hard not to fall asleep, but I was extremely tired. Some of the speakers were amazing though. Whereas others, they were very repetitive. Other things I liked about this event is the lunch we were served- it was delicious! Also, I got to meet some new people/new friends from other schools who were very nice!

My three most favourite speakers were Maddie Cranston, Holly Painter and Shayma Saadat. Maddie's talk was inspiring and adorable. For a nine year-old to have such passion about protecting Earth's ocean and her ability to stand in front of a large crowd to speak is astonishing. I wouldn't have the courage to do what Maddie did. When I was nine, I was probably just running around, playing tag. I can see Maddie Cranston as a famous environmentalist in the future.

Another talk I enjoyed was by Holly Painter. She introduced the audience to slam poetry- a competitive event in which poets perform their work by means of reciting or reading original work. In this case, Holly was reciting her poem. I really liked her poem that she created about The Hunger Games some other topic I`ve forgotten.. . That talk kept me awake through the whole thing, surprisingly because it was captivating.

My final favourite speaker is Shayma Saadat. Her talk was interesting. I'd also experienced the same thing as her when I was made fun of the food I'd brought for lunch in elementary school. Some girl was making fun of me by saying my lunch looked like grasshoppers when it was just fried noodles and vegetables. From that day on, I tried to hide my lunch or eat alone and I never told my parents about this. Overall, this event needs some more improvement and preparation. It was an "OK" experience. Anyone found this trip fun?

They don't look alike at all o.o
Today I decided to research about red pandas because I found out Shifu is a red panda. Whoever watches Kung Fu Panda knows what I'm talking about. As you may know, Po is a panda, Tigress is tiger, Monkey is a monkey and the others are pretty obvious. But, neither my siblings or I knew what Shifu is! So, I looked up  what species he is and found out he's a red panda. I didn't even know that red pandas were a type of species, but I now I do. For those of you who didn't know, shifu means master in Mandarin, Chinese. Basically, Po is calling Shifu Master Master............. Anyways, they are extremely cute and adorable. I find them a little more cuter than giant pandas. Here are a few facts I found out about them:

- Their average lifespan in the wild is 8 years

- Over the winter, they lose up to 15% of their body weight

Their other names include: Bear-cat, Bright Panda, Cat-bear, Fire Fox, Lesser Panda, Petit Panda and Poonya
- Their tail is about 12-20 inches

- They weigh 5% of the giant panda's weight

- The red panda is about the size of a raccoon and weighs 7 to 14 pounds

 Japan
I've always dreamed of going to Japan to see cherry blossoms one day! I would love to walk through a pink forest of flowers while taking millions of pictures of them. They are such a beautiful sight! I would describe them as elegant, gorgeous, mystical, stunning and pretty in pink- there's just not enough words to describe the beauty of the cherry blossom trees! Other reasons I want to go to Japan include the love for their language, sushi and manga/anime. I want to wear kimonos as well! (^v^)

Maldives Island
Maldives, known as the Maldives Island seems like a very exciting place to go to! The most interesting thing about this place is that there are underwater hotels, in which you can spot over a thousand species of fish and other underwater creatures. The water is so clear, that you can see the passing fish as far as fifty metres! I would love to swim all day long in the warm, clear waters in the beaches of Maldives! Also, water skiing seems like a fun sport to try out.

China
China has a lot of amazing architectures such as The Great Wall of China and the Temple of Heaven. I've always thought how long it would take to walk The Great Wall and found out that it would take 18 months to walk its length. That;s seriously a long time. I've always dreamed up seeing giant pandas up close and I hope to pet them one day! They are extremely cute and fluffy.

Hong Kong
I used to think that Hong Kong was a province in China. It is a special administrative region that is a part of China, but Hong Kong has a separate legal system and the official language is different from China. What I like about this place
is the spectacular night view that is not comparable to any other. Sometimes there will be fireworks that add to the vibrancy of Hong Kong's nightlife! And, I would be able to speak my own language instead of English, which would be pretty cool.

France
France seems like a neat country to travel to. If I were to choose a city to go to, it would probably be Paris because that is the only city I know in this country. Paris is a city full of attractions, art galleries, museums and beautiful parks and garden. The Eiffel Tower is the most recognizable architectural landmarks of Paris, so I would love to see it! I've heard there are a lot of delicious food in France that I must try! ( except for the snails...) I am specifically talking about the desserts and pastries.

What countries or places would you like to travel to?

Jennifer Pahlka's TED talk states that apps that only take a couple days to write could spread virally, and it's a powerful way to connect citizens to their government. She is saying that technology makes it possible to fundamentally reframe the function of the government, improving and making it better. Another main point about this talk is being an active citizen is not just using your voice, but using your hands.

The point where she said "We are not going to fix government until we fix citizenship" is very true. Jennifer strongly stated  not give up on the government. If citizens are not involved to help strengthen the community,it won't improve. When one citizen helps another, it strengthens the community. I agree with the fact that the government plays a key role to connect those people who help each other. They could have connected to government service if they needed help, but a neighbor is a better and cheaper alternative. That's how you strengthen your community, by helping each other help!

As I stepped out of the car, I let out a huge sigh, followed by a gulp. I edged slowly towards the funeral home, wary of each step I take. I opened the door and felt a chill going down my spine. This is the first time I’ve been to a funeral, having to be my uncle's. The place was decorated  like a mansion, looking nice and fancy, but I felt eerie about this place. I don’t know why but I kept on trembling with fear. I felt my heart pounding as well. The whole room was filled with incense, which burned my eyes, forcing them to shut. That didn’t make things any better. I took a left; there were hordes of people standing in front of the doorway. I was trying hard to force myself through the crowd to hang up my coat, then I retreated as quick as I could. My parents, my brother and I waited in the corner for some people to leave, so we could pray my uncle. I felt really bad, like sorrow and grief as I watched my aunt cry. I felt bad for my cousins too. Their faces were red as ever, in agony. I took a glimpse at my uncle in his coffin- it seemed like he was just sleeping. My brother and I got on our knees and bowed three times, in front of him. Then, we were asked to take a seat. I was sitting there, solid for ten minutes, just hearing the room filled with tears, cries and yells. That made my eyes start to tear as well. The room was all gloomy and somber. The yellow, dim lights added to the gloom. My brother was sitting beside me,  fiddling with his iPod. How nice and respectful of him. He dragged me to the other room so he can eat and play. My parents were talking to people. I was sitting on a couch, staring at the carpet for half an hour until it was time to leave. A very depressing day.

Today, I decided to check out some interesting news about science. I stumbled upon this article, saying a married couple would make a privately funded trip to Mars for a total of 501 days!  The Inspiration Mars Foundation plans to launch the carefully selected American couple into space in January 2018, and return back to Earth in May 2019. The purpose of the trip aims not to land people on the surface of the Red Planet, but to have a quick flyby of Mars. This project is lead by American billionaire Dennis Tito, who paid for his own way in space in 2001. This seems really exciting, but it's such a long trip! Would you be willing to go to Mars for over a year?

I personally don't like reading- no offense to book lovers. I'm just not the person to willingly pick up a book from a library and start reading. I will only read if I have to for novel studies in school. As a matter of fact, I can take months reading just one book. For example, everyone probably read The Hunger Games in less than a week. As for me, to be honest, I took three whole months. No joke. That's probably why my English vocabulary is terrible and sometimes I don't understand 25% the vocab my teacher uses......I think I should start reading more on my own, not just in school. There are many wonderful benefits of reading that will be very helpful now and in the future. Anyone have good books to recommend? I usually prefer action and adventure. One more thing, please stay away from history-related books.

I found a list of top 10 reasons why reading is important:

1. Builds Vocabulary
2. Enhances writing skills
3. Enhances creativity
4. Improved concentration
5. Reduced stress levels
6. Improves critical thinking
7. Increases brain flexibility
8. Improves memory
9. Confidence building
10. Better reasoning

Some of these reasons were pretty obvious, but some of them were new to me such as  #5.

Our FFP class decided to do a Harlem Shake video!!  At first, I was freaking out, strongly opposed to this idea. This is something I normally won't do and I don't like to do. But, I found it an interesting experience after a while.

In one scene, we had to do the shake in the cafeteria. It was mortifying doing it in there where fifty pairs of eyes were turned to our attention! I tried to hide behind the scenes, camouflaging myself, while the others are dancing like maniacs. I may not be noticeable in the videos, but I'm there, embarrassed as ever. As we progressed through the scenes, I got more and more comfortable doing the Harlem Shake. Especially for the last scene, everyone just got all crazy and intense. The scene I liked most was filmed at the balcony of Tassie Hall, where our teacher was dressed as the GCI ghost!

The theme of our Harlem Shake connects to GCI and its the school's spirit. I used a gym shirt to represent GCI. You would probably ask what would a gym shirt represent. It symbolized me as one of the athletic students of the phys ed department of GCI. It even said the school name on it.
